Job Summary:

This position is located within the Morale, Welfare & Recreation Department at Commander, Navy Installations Command. The Recreation Assistant will provide administrative support and recreational services to patrons, including customer service, facility maintenance, and program planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides customer service to patrons, including greeting customers, checking identification cards, and registering patrons for facility use and events.
  • Answers telephone calls and provides information on facility hours, upcoming events, and programs.
  • Completes daily activity reports, handles cash transactions, and verifies money collected.
  • Assists in planning, scheduling, and publicizing recreational activities and maintains related supplies.
  • Oversees the sale of retail items associated with activities.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of recreational activities based on participant feedback and program objectives.
  • Monitors patrons, volunteers, and contractors at assigned programs and reports any issues to management.
  • Assists in selecting fitness, sports, and aquatics activities to be offered.
  • Conducts instructional classes and monitors participants in indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Ensures facility and sporting fields are open and closed at posted times, monitors security, and maintains athletic playing surfaces.
  • Assists in cleaning and maintaining equipment and facilities, and performs general janitorial services.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic and cash handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of fitness, aquatics, and sports principles.
  • Ability to provide fitness, aquatics, and sports training or orientation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop presentations and training.

Additional Information:

This position does not have a positive education requirement. Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Selectee may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
