Job Overview

The Youth Program Career Navigator plays a crucial role in assisting participants of the WIOA Youth program by guiding them towards achieving self-sufficiency. This position involves conducting comprehensive intake and case management activities while providing essential support services to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold the mission and values of SERCO.
  • Engage with clients or their representatives to collect information necessary for assessing service requirements.
  • Manage the intake process to evaluate customer eligibility for various services.
  • Conduct thorough interviews, assessments, and skills evaluations for participants entering career center programs.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of application documents and forms.
  • Administer and interpret interest, aptitude, and achievement assessments, providing results to help participants set realistic goals and explore suitable educational and training pathways.
  • Contribute to the development of materials and facilitate workshops, job clubs, and group meetings for program participants.
  • Assist clients in accessing fundamental self-help resources through effective utilization of the resource center.
  • Stay informed about updates and changes affecting applicant eligibility and reporting obligations.
  • Refer ineligible applicants or those with different training interests to appropriate agencies, training centers, or community organizations.
  • Maintain comprehensive participant records in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Regularly input data into TWIST records.
  • Compile and distribute precise intake and assessment reports.
  • Perform additional work-related tasks as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Strong interviewing and client screening abilities.

Capability to interpret eligibility criteria.

Proficiency in administering and scoring assessment tools.

Ability to generate detailed reports.

Competence in calculating income levels accurately.

Analytical skills to evaluate participant documentation for eligibility.

Ability to build rapport with participants.

Familiarity with assessment instruments utilized in workforce center applications.

Basic mathematical knowledge, including addition and subtraction.

Proficient in using personal computers.

Exceptional communication skills; bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Commitment to treating clients with dignity and respect.

Willingness to travel within the state as required.

Education and Experience:

An Associate degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.

A minimum of two years of relevant experience in intake and certification processes, or a combination of education and experience.

Alternatively, candidates may have been employed with SERCO in a temporary capacity for at least six months.

Special Requirements:

  • A valid Texas Driver's License and proof of automobile liability insurance as mandated by the State of Texas.
  • Access to reliable transportation for necessary home visits and travel within the service area.

Physical Demands: Employees may occasionally be required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods. The ability to drive for long durations is necessary. Employees may also need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and set up display areas.
