Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Health Physics Technician to join our team at Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and enforcing radiation safety policies and regulations, monitoring radiological work controls, and interpreting field data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and monitor radioactive shipments, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret sample results to ensure compliance with radiation safety regulations.
  • Conduct area surveys to identify elevated levels of exposure or contamination, and respond to incidents or emergencies.
  • Issue radiation work permits and brief personnel on radiological conditions and work requirements.
  • Monitor and control personnel and material access to radiologically controlled areas.
  • Operate and issue radiological counting and detection equipment, as well as air sampling equipment.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of radiological controls equipment.
  • Participate in emergency preparation drills and responses.
  • Maintain field radiation protection records, including survey logs and radiation work permit entry and exit records.
  • May lead, train, and direct the work of other Health Physics staff.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • AS degree in Nuclear Technology or equivalent preferred
  • National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) certification preferred
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in a team setting
  • Detailed knowledge of local, state, and federal radiation safety compliance regulations
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles and practices of radiation safety compliance
  • Detailed knowledge of radiation monitoring instrumentation and methods
  • Ability to schedule tasks assigned to other Health Physics technicians
  • Demonstrated ability to identify exposure levels, recognize trends, and develop radiation controls
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work primarily in an industrial-type work environment, with potential exposure to radiation, noise, dust, hot and cold temperatures, and chemicals. The ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 pounds, and work in extreme temperatures is required.
