Position Title: Mathematics Coach

Position Overview:

  • Facilitate professional development initiatives across the school in mathematics, providing practical support through strategies such as collaborative lesson planning, lesson demonstrations, co-teaching, targeted observations, and reflective discussions.
  • Exhibit proven mathematics teaching techniques and intervention approaches to support educators.
  • Deliver ongoing mentorship and coaching to teaching staff.
  • Assist educators in leveraging data to customize mathematics instruction and identify students with dyscalculia or other learning challenges.
  • Continuously assess K-5 students' mathematical progress through benchmark evaluations and suggest instructional modifications based on individual requirements and data insights.
  • Serve solely as a mathematics coach within elementary educational settings.
  • Partner with teachers to encourage the use of appropriate instructional resources, including tangible materials, to ensure students comprehend mathematical principles.
  • Collaborate with educators to create engaging tasks, lessons, and assessments aligned with mathematics standards, analyze student work and assessment outcomes, and provide prompt feedback for instructional adjustments.
  • Support teachers in utilizing formative assessments to identify misunderstandings and recognize students needing additional assistance.
  • Assist educators in administering assessments focused on numeracy and fractional reasoning for designated grade levels.
  • Promote and coordinate family and community engagement in mathematics education alongside school leadership.
  • Participate in professional development activities to advance mathematics knowledge and skills.
  • Incorporate assessment data across all tiers of mathematics instruction to improve student outcomes.
  • Lead professional development sessions aimed at addressing student learning gaps, fostering engagement, evaluating learning, and reflecting on teaching methodologies.
  • Document job responsibilities and interactions with educators on a specified electronic platform.
  • Support teachers in integrating computer science and computational thinking concepts into mathematics instruction.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a valid Alabama certification in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Special Education.
  • Hold a master's degree or have completed recommended professional development in Elementary Mathematics.
  • Have at least five years of teaching experience in early childhood, elementary, or special education.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in mathematics instruction and intervention, including early numeracy and dyscalculia strategies.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Show effective time management and organizational capabilities.
  • Display high integrity and dedication to professional responsibilities.
  • Possess a solid understanding of mathematical content and learning theories.
