Job Summary:

Shimmick is seeking a highly skilled Estimator to join our team in Irvine, CA. As an Estimator, you will play a critical role in providing accurate and detailed estimates for our water infrastructure projects. This challenging position will provide an excellent growth opportunity while improving the infrastructure of the region.

About the Role:

As an Estimator, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, contracts, and Requests-for-Proposals. You will develop detailed material take-offs for estimate development and procurement of bulk materials. You will also be responsible for performing all aspects of estimating, including understanding construction means, methods, and sequences, and recognizing construction terminology, measures, concepts, and principles.

Responsibilities:

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Reads and interprets drawings, specifications, contracts, and Requests-for-Proposals.
Develops detailed material take-offs for estimate development and procurement of bulk materials.
Responsible for performing all aspects of estimating.
Understands construction means, methods, and sequences.
Recognizes construction terminology, measures, concepts, and principles.
Understands how various assumptions may impact the estimate.
Develops proficiency in the use of the Company estimating systems and processes.
Conducts work requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard estimating techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Prepares scope and bid package breakdowns for subcontract and vendor quotes.
Prepares subcontract bid analysis of scope, and price.
Assists with post-bid subcontracts and material contracts.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous heavy civil construction experience.
Experience on water/wastewater projects.
Experience with Hard Dollar bidding software.
Strong problem-solving skills and consistent attention to detail.
Ability to manage changing deadlines and work well under pressure for multiple team leaders.
Self-motivated, curious, creative, flexible.
Work independently and effectively to prioritize multiple tasks.
Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
Strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Additional Information:

Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test. This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization. The salary range for this position is between $105,000 and $150,000 per year depending on experience and/or education. Shimmick's comprehensive benefits plan includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as options to participate in a Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account. The Company also provides employer-paid Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, basic life, and Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and an Employee Assistance Program. Additional voluntary benefit offerings include pet insurance, hospital indemnity, critical illness insurance, legal and identity theft protection, 401(k) with employer match, Paid Time Off, and tuition reimbursement. These benefits are available to all employees working more than 20 hours per week. Employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as Employee Assistance Program services.
