Key Responsibilities:
  • Actively gather information for each estimating job by collaborating with account managers, end users, engineering teams, estimating teams, vendors, and other sources of information.
  • Interpret field conditions to determine project direction and provide costs associated with mechanical retrofit projects without the use of drawings, plans, or specifications.
  • Develop written proposals, scopes of work, project scheduling, and engineering solutions that comply with regulatory agencies and industry standards.
  • Generate sales proposals and Excel spreadsheets that are complete and accurate for proposed projects and comply with relevant regulations.
  • Perform constructability and code compliance reviews of proposals, estimates, design documents, or engineered solutions and effectively document and communicate constructability and risk concerns.
  • Understand and have a working knowledge of the California Mechanical Code and local municipal codes.
  • Compile thorough and detailed lists of qualifications, clarifications, and exclusions to communicate budget assumptions to clients effectively.
  • Prepare accurate replacement equipment lists, sheet metal, piping, and labor estimates.
  • Obtain scopes of work and pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Assist with pricing change orders.
Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience in Estimating, Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Management.
  • Minimum + years' experience with HVAC design and building construction.
  • Knowledge of practical application of mechanical engineering, including redline-designs, design techniques, plans, and specifications, and the RFQ & RFP process for budgeting and bidding of retrofit projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical retrofitting of commercial buildings, hospitals, data centers, K-, and universities, including energy projects that involve integration, DDC, engineering, commissioning, M&V, and energy analysis.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in mechanical retrofit of commercial buildings.
  • Competent technical knowledge of construction means and methods of mechanical construction, including retrofit projects, budgeting, engineering redline designs, scheduling, phasing, and planning.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control all aspects of the bidding process.
  • Self-starter, strong work ethic, get-the-job-done attitude, and overall team player.
  • Ability to work with clients to find mutually satisfactory solutions to complex issues.
  • Ability to work with management and various skilled & unskilled salespeople, professional, administrative, and industry personnel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
