Diagnostician for Special Education Services

We are seeking a highly skilled Educational Diagnostician to join our Student Evaluation and Support Services team at NOLA Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating students suspected of being exceptional and providing educational and behavioral interventions to support their needs.
Key Responsibilities- Function as evaluation coordinator for designated referred students;
- Facilitate the Student Assistance Team (SATeam) process by participating as a representative of the Student Evaluation & Support Services team in providing feedback on best practices in the student assistance team process;
- Explain and interpret assessment services/findings to parents, teachers, principals, and other appropriate personnel;
- Implement and/or assist teachers and other school personnel in the design and implementation of educational and behavioral interventions for support services to clients;
- Provide a written report of any academic/behavioral support services provided to clients;
- Attend the Tier III data meetings to participate in the development of evidence-based interventions and to assist in the analysis of the plans' effectiveness;
- Evaluate as a Student Evaluation & Support Services member and in accordance with Bulletin 1508, the Pupil Appraisal Handbook, those students suspected of being exceptional;
- Serve as a member of the Child Search Team by conducting functional/developmental assessments for preschool-aged children;
- Participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) staffing and service plan meetings, when appropriate.
- Master's degree in Education, at least one year of experience in the certified special education area, as authorized by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education;
- Minimum of three years of experience as an Educational Diagnostician or comparable special education experience required;
- Valid Louisiana Type A, B, or Level 2 or 3 teaching certified for generic special education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to special education;
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies;
- Basic computer skills and ability to use various types of software programs.
The normal setting for this job is an office/school setting. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Performance EvaluationThe employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
