Campus Dietitian

The Bama Dining Culinary Dietitian is a key role that drives the launch, activation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the health and wellness platform for the University of Alabama's Dining Program.

This position will focus on two primary areas: Campus Programming, Partnerships, and Education, and Food and Safety with an emphasis on ingredients and allergens.

• Campus Programming, Partnerships, and Education
  • Develop and implement health and wellness programs, including tabling events, food samplings, cooking demos, lunch and learns, health fairs, guest speaker events, and other on-campus initiatives.
  • Build relationships with clients, department heads, and community groups to align Bama Dining with overall campus wellness initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to engage the student population through social media and pop-up events, and support meal plan sales by assisting students with choosing plans that meet their needs.
  • Serve as a preceptor for student interns.
• Food and Safety Oversight
  • Partner with the culinary team to support menu planning and development for multiple locations, including residential, retail, and catering, with a focus on ingredient and allergen transparency.
  • Lead the culinary team in understanding special dietary needs, including dietary restrictions related to food allergies or intolerances, and lifestyle diets due to personal preferences or religious reasons.
  • Oversee compliance with United States Food and Drug Administration menu labeling laws, including recipe and menu board signage in on-campus residential and proprietary retail locations, convenience locations, and catering.
  • Collaborate with Dining Services Coordinator and other campus departments on dining accommodations.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Conduct one-on-one and/or group nutrition consultations, applying Medical Nutrition Therapy and following the Nutrition Care Process for charting during consultations.
  • Follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines throughout the dining accommodation and nutrition consultation process.
  • Maintain registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and Licensure and through the Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetics & Nutritionists.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field.
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential with the Commission of Dietetic Registration and Licensed Dietitian status in Alabama. RDN-eligible candidates may be considered.
• Food safety knowledge with ServSafe certification and food allergy knowledge with AllerTrain certification; must be obtained within 6 weeks of hire date.
• At least one (1) year experience in K12 or higher education food service preferred.
• Knowledge working with PC applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (previous experience with food production systems, nutrition analysis software, electronic medical recording, and social media platforms preferred).
• Strong communication skills (oral and written); can effectively communicate with clients, customers, and support staff.
• A self-starter, confident in abilities, self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively with little supervision.
