Position Overview:
As a Cardiac Ultrasound Specialist, you will collaborate closely with cardiologists to conduct cardiac ultrasound examinations at a technical level. Your role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of the department while upholding the highest standards of patient care across all age groups, from infants to geriatrics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct cardiac ultrasound examinations following departmental protocols and standards.
  • Organize daily schedules for both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
  • Perform examinations for emergency room patients as required.
  • Select and utilize the appropriate equipment for each examination.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and clearly explain the processes involved.
  • Document clinical histories, blood pressures, and technologist impressions accurately.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists and referring physicians to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Maintain a daily logbook of procedures performed.
  • Adhere to established safety protocols, including patient safety and infection control measures.
  • Stay current with developments in the field of cardiac ultrasound and maintain ARDMS or RCS registration.
  • Ensure a clean and organized work environment, managing supply levels effectively.
  • Assist in the maintenance of ultrasound equipment and report any issues promptly.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and pathology during routine procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including authorized access to contrast media if registered.

Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Proficient in operating sonographic equipment effectively.
  • Ability to integrate sonograms with laboratory results and patient histories.
  • Strong independent judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey diagnostic information to physicians.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Commitment to following established departmental procedures.
  • Capability to work efficiently under pressure and in emergency situations.

Education and Experience:
Applicants must be ARDMS or RCS registered or actively pursuing registration. A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a progressive ultrasound department or training program meeting ARDMS registry eligibility is required. Previous experience as a Registered ARRT Technologist is preferred. CPR certification is also mandatory.

Work Environment:
This position involves daily exposure to potentially hazardous conditions, requiring a proactive approach to safety.

Physical and Mental Demands:
The role necessitates:

  • Good eye-hand coordination and the ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to assist patients weighing up to 150 pounds.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of equipment weighing between 5 to 50 pounds.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to focus amidst distractions.

In this dynamic environment, you will be expected to analyze data, plan operations, and demonstrate independent judgment to produce accurate diagnostic images. Your ability to manage routine tasks while maintaining concentration is essential for success in this role.
