Position Overview
The Radiologic Imaging Specialist delivers clinical services in accordance with radiology practice standards, ensuring optimal departmental operations. This role requires proficiency in the utilization of all x-ray apparatus and the execution of various x-ray protocols and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
• Demonstrates technical expertise in generating high-quality imaging studies within the designated timeframe for each procedure.
• Exhibits a thorough understanding of PACS and collaborates with Radiologists to assess critical anatomical details and identify abnormalities.
• Verifies patient identity, the specific body part, and the correct side for each patient prior to conducting imaging procedures.
• Implements effective patient care practices as per departmental and institutional policies, ensuring patient safety and comfort. This includes obtaining clinical histories and informed consent from patients or their medical records to assist physicians in optimizing examination performance and interpretation.
• Clearly explains procedures to patients and their families, addressing any concerns to alleviate anxiety and promote cooperation.
Clinical Competence
• Recognizes and addresses clinical or urgent issues that may impact imaging studies, taking necessary actions to ensure favorable outcomes.
• Responds to and follows up on critical imaging findings.
• Evaluates patient laboratory results to confirm they are within acceptable limits when applicable.
Maintenance and Safety
• Maintains equipment, examination rooms, and workspaces in a clean and safe condition to ensure the well-being of patients and staff. This includes daily inspections of the suite, equipment, and accessories for any physical or mechanical hazards.
• Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and promptly reports any hazardous conditions to the appropriate personnel.
• Ensures proper inventory management by checking supply levels and maintaining adequate stock while adhering to cleanliness standards.
Quality Assurance
• Participates in departmental quality control and performance improvement initiatives, addressing any identified deficiencies.
• Adheres to sterile techniques and practices, ensuring hand hygiene before and after patient interactions. Complies with hospital policies regarding body substance isolation and wears a film badge during shifts.
Administrative Duties
• Completes ancillary tasks to support efficient departmental operations, including accurate documentation on requisitions and performing routine clerical tasks as assigned.
• Inputs and verifies all data in the PACS/RADIANT systems.
Qualifications
• Preferred: Completion of a Radiologic Technologist program and relevant healthcare experience.
• Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Required: Radiology Technician certification from the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board Of Examiners (LSRTBE).
Physical Requirements
This position involves medium physical demands, including:
• Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Frequent standing, walking, and carrying of items.
• Ability to perform various physical activities such as bending, twisting, and reaching.
Work Environment
This role operates primarily during daytime shifts.
