Role Summary:
The Financial Counselor plays a crucial role in assisting patients and their families by providing a range of services designed to facilitate a smooth payment process. This position emphasizes the importance of customer service and effective communication.

Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold Orlando Health's commitment to outstanding customer service while achieving departmental goals.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and communicate clearly with patients and team members.
- Accurately collect and enter patient demographic and financial information.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers to secure necessary authorizations and information.
- Clarify required documentation and obtain necessary signatures from patients or guarantors.
- Verify insurance benefits and secure authorizations from relevant payers.
- Educate patients on their insurance benefits and collect applicable payments.
- Document all relevant information in the registration system.
- Compile patient records and gather necessary documentation, including insurance and identification cards.
- Understand third-party reimbursement processes and regulations.
- Utilize registration systems and electronic verification tools proficiently.
- Adhere to cash handling policies and perform basic cashiering duties.
- Collect and manage patient valuables according to established guidelines.
- Maintain a foundational understanding of medical necessity criteria and related systems.
- Conduct pre-registration tasks as needed, including communication with healthcare providers and payers.
- Keep departmental logs for reporting purposes.
- Consistently meet quality assurance standards and departmental performance metrics.
- Exhibit flexibility in work scheduling to accommodate departmental needs.
- Comply with all federal, state, and hospital regulations.

Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
- Stay informed about Patient Financial Services policies and educational initiatives.
- Assist management in organizing departmental activities.

Qualifications:
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of Patient Financial Services Orientation and annual training is mandatory.

Experience:
- Minimum of two years in a financial, business office, or customer service role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential.
- Typing skills and experience with PC/Windows environments are required.
