Job Title: Water Treatment Plant Operator

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at the Town of Gilbert, AZ. As a Water Treatment Plant Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the water treatment plant, ensuring the production of high-quality drinking water for our community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain the water treatment plant, including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Conduct minor plant and equipment maintenance, including general housekeeping and provide assistance to maintenance staff.
  • Perform laboratory analysis and jar tests to determine optimum chemical dosages.
  • Keep log books, lab books, lab reports, midnight daily total reports, inspection reports, backwash logs, and update ozone database.
  • Operate and monitor water treatment plant systems using DCS and SCADA computer systems.
  • Conduct visual plant inspections, monitor plant operations and processes, and detect problems to ensure proper operation.
  • Make process decisions as deemed appropriate and assist in maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical plant equipment and machinery.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of experience in surface water treatment plant operations, supplemented by vocational/technical training in water treatment plant operations, water distribution systems, or related equipment maintenance.
  • ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment Plant Operator certification within 6 months of hire.
  • ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution System Operator certification within 1 year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2-5 years of experience in public sector water distribution system and in water treatment.
  • Grade 2 Water Treatment Certification and a Grade 2 Water Distribution Certification at the time of hire or promotion.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work varied shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends on a rotating schedule. The successful candidate must meet the physical standards and requirements for wearing Air Purifying Respirator (APR) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) respiratory protection equipment.
