Position Overview
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for utilizing ionizing radiation equipment to deliver precise radiation therapy treatments in accordance with the radiation oncologist's directives and treatment plan.
This role involves assisting in patient simulations, maintaining accurate records within the clinic's information management system, and conducting quality assurance checks on the treatment apparatus.
The Radiation Therapist is dedicated to providing empathetic patient care and education.
Key Responsibilities
1. Administer accurate radiation therapy treatments using a linear accelerator; assist in patient simulations.
2. Set treatment parameters with precision and ensure thorough documentation of all procedures.
3. Conduct daily quality assurance and warm-up procedures.
4. Schedule and manage daily treatment sessions and related appointments.
5. Monitor patients' well-being throughout their treatment and provide necessary education.
6. Observe patients for any signs of complications and report findings to the physician as needed.
7. Coordinate daily radiation therapy sessions and CT scans.
8. Handle daily and weekly imaging for treatment verification.
9. Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
10. Engage in professional development and continuous education.
Qualifications
Education:
Required: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) is preferred.
Experience:
One (1) to two (2) years of experience is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
ARRT Registered, IEMA Licensed, BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Skills and Abilities:
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties effectively. This includes:
- Strong communication skills for interpreting and presenting information.
- Problem-solving abilities to navigate various practical situations.
- Mathematical proficiency for applying advanced concepts in practical scenarios.
- Familiarity with clinical information systems, preferably Mosaiq.
- Basic knowledge of radiation therapy equipment and procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands of this position require frequent sitting, standing, and walking, as well as the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision capabilities must include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to extreme weather conditions but may encounter moderate noise levels and work near moving mechanical parts. Safety precautions are essential due to the proximity to radiation-emitting treatment units.
