Position Overview:
The Engineering Manager will oversee and coordinate the daily operations of engineers and technicians within the PPL Enterprise Standards organization.

This role is accountable for direct supervision, coaching, mentoring, and providing technical guidance to staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely, and cost-effective solutions to meet both technical and business objectives.

The Engineering Manager will also be responsible for maintaining the technical quality of the team's output and is expected to drive continuous improvement in this area.

This position operates within established policies, procedures, and business plans, and while it does not typically involve performing the work being supervised, the manager will engage in individual technical and business-related assignments to support departmental goals and special projects.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the development and publication of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance Standards for the PPL enterprise, providing technical direction in areas such as transmission, distribution, substations, civil structures, relays, distributed energy resources, and metering.
  • Lead and prioritize work group activities, assigning and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines. Supervise the daily operations of the Standards staff across all operating companies to ensure compliance with NESC, IEEE, OSHA, ANSI, and PPL's standards.
  • Evaluate team members to cultivate organizational talent and expertise in necessary areas. Provide supervision and guidance to engineers and technicians across various locations.
  • Collaborate with other departments on cross-functional technical and business teams to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.
  • Assist in monitoring and forecasting the departmental budget.
  • Establish and manage departmental goals and metrics while promoting a strong safety culture. Strive for innovation and ensure PPL remains aligned with industry trends.
  • Select, train, mentor, and develop team members to create motivated and effective teams. Assess workload and resource needs to recommend additional support as necessary.
  • Conduct research and analysis on technical and business plans, designs, proposals, projects, or strategies, providing insights and recommendations to support departmental objectives.
  • Promote standardization and consolidation across the PPL enterprise where feasible, leveraging innovative solutions and implementing robust change management strategies.
  • Lead storm restoration efforts in designated command centers and participate in training and drills related to storm restoration.
  • Ensure compliance with FLSA wage and hour regulations and monitor adherence to safety protocols for positions involving driving.
  • Perform additional duties and initiatives as assigned by senior leadership.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required, along with a minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to the electric utility sector.
Proven ability to provide technical direction to both technical and non-technical personnel.
Knowledge of advanced management theories, practices, and techniques.
Strong judgment, technical insight, and initiative to guide engineers in resolving complex issues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
