Position Overview
As a Motor Control and Power Conversion Engineer, you will play a crucial role within the Oceaneering Aerospace and Defense Technologies (ADTECH) engineering team, recognized as a center of excellence within our dynamic global organization.
Your primary focus will be on the development and application of high-power, high-efficiency motor control systems, drives, active front-end rectifiers, and various power conversion technologies.
Additionally, you will engage in diverse tasks related to the design and implementation of intricate power and control systems for specialized underwater robotic and electromechanical systems, addressing some of the most challenging problems faced by our clients, particularly within the U.S. Navy and other government defense sectors.
Our projects are unique, ensuring that you will continually engage in innovative and compelling work.
At Oceaneering, we believe in hands-on involvement; our engineers actively participate in building and testing their designs, going beyond mere analysis and design.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize your expertise to develop low to high power motor controls, drives, active front-end rectifiers, and supporting components.
- Lead the design of significant portions of electrical and control systems for projects, mentoring junior engineers as needed.
- Translate high-level requirements into effective designs for systems of moderate complexity, working both independently and collaboratively.
- Exhibit strong technical judgment, creativity, and attention to detail throughout your work.
- Participate in regular design reviews and collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineers.
- Mentor junior engineers or technicians when necessary.
- Take responsibility for your results, working autonomously while knowing when to seek assistance.
- Demonstrate a desire to expand your skills and responsibilities.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field with an electrical concentration.
Minimum of 8 years of practical experience focusing on custom high-power motor controls and power conversion systems.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Department of Defense Security Clearance.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in three-phase brushless motors and control models, including dynamic flux estimation.
Experience with high-frequency space-vector pulse-width modulation and advanced commutation techniques.
Proficient in modeling and simulation of motors and controls in various domains.
Knowledge of embedded software implementation in microcontrollers and DSPs.
Experience with power electronics design and component selection.
Ability to create and interpret detailed electrical schematics and diagrams.
Familiarity with advanced CAD and simulation software.
Additional Information
This position offers a hybrid work model, requiring occasional commuting to a designated office.
