Key Responsibilities

Troubleshooting & Repairs Leadership: Oversee the diagnosis and repair of complex commercial HVAC systems, including multi-zone setups with pneumatic, digital, and programmable logic controls. Plan Development & Implementation: Formulate comprehensive HVAC modification plans, assess job requirements, and supervise the installation of components associated with our central control system. Training & Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior HVAC technicians, ensuring adherence to high standards in troubleshooting, repairs, and system upkeep. Preventive Maintenance Design: Create and execute preventive maintenance checklists for new equipment, enhancing reliability and lifespan. Blueprint Analysis: Evaluate as-built blueprints to propose system modifications for renovation projects, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Material Selection: Research and select materials for HVAC system installation, repair, and maintenance, promoting efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Safety & Compliance Advocacy: Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement in workplace practices, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations.

Conditions of Employment:

A valid driver's license is required for this position. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment criminal background check. Candidates must undergo a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Certification status must be maintained. All regular, non-temporary positions in this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Compliance with the University's vaccination requirements is necessary for those providing services in clinical areas.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of relevant trades experience. Possession of a current Journeyman's refrigeration license and an EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification, along with one other HVAC-related license.

Higher education degrees from accredited institutions may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 6 years of hands-on experience with HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial and multi-zone systems. Possession of a current Journeyman's Refrigeration License, EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification, and at least one other HVAC-related license. High school diploma or GED required; higher education degrees in relevant fields are preferred. Proficient in preparing engineering documents, specifications, and cost estimates, with detailed knowledge of HVAC systems incorporating digital control systems. Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and mentor staff effectively. Strong analytical skills in reading and interpreting schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals. Skilled in using computers in a Windows-based environment and familiar with relevant software tools.
