Job Summary

The Senior Property and Casualty Underwriter is a key role within Ryan Specialty, responsible for overseeing and managing property and casualty business workflows. This position requires technical expertise and adherence to underwriting guidelines, with a focus on developing strategies for new business opportunities and portfolio retention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and strategically manage workflows for new property and casualty business and renewals, ensuring advanced professionalism and technical expertise.
  • Evaluate, prioritize, and select submissions and price risks to develop an underwriting profit for the carrier, referring or declining risks that present excessive risk.
  • Drive risk assessment comprehensively, evaluating factors such as coverage value, location, usage, safety features, and other considerations to make informed decisions on risk acceptance.
  • Determine appropriate coverage limits, insurance premiums, and policy terms based on risk assessment, ensuring active portfolio management of complex property and casualty accounts.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers, recognizing and creating cross-sell opportunities for other products while ensuring compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Develop strategic initiatives to create new business opportunities, maximize retention of assigned portfolios, and contribute significantly to achieving business targets.
  • Manage internal and external relationships to deliver superior customer service, developing professional, long-term relationships with brokers and agents.
  • Partner with underwriting teams, fostering seamless communication and optimizing task coordination to support the overall underwriting process.
  • Provide accurate premium forecasts and business plans, contribute to budgeting processes, and support the achievement of performance targets.
  • Optimize underwriting processes, introduce new technologies, and align the department with broader organizational goals.
  • Deliver training for new underwriters on underwriting guidelines, processes, and systems.
  • Stay abreast of property and casualty underwriting trends, emerging risks in the sector, regulatory changes, and adjust underwriting strategies accordingly.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting with a Bachelor's degree or 6 years and a Master's degree preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred; Risk Management, Actuarial, and Business Administration preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
  • Minimum requirements for state P&C and/or surplus line licenses.
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) preferred.

The target salary range for this position is $98,782.00 annually, with bonuses and benefits available for full-time roles.
