Admissions Counselor I

As an Admissions Counselor I at Texas Woman's University, you will represent the university accurately, personably, and effectively to all its various constituents. Your work will focus on facilitating the implementation of policies, practices, and programs that enable the university to achieve enrollment projections. You will work under general supervision, with performance evaluations conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with University Policies & Procedures.
Essential Duties- Represent the university to the general public through scheduled presentations at the university, secondary schools, community/junior colleges, and College Fairs.
- Participate in several evening and Saturday programs during the fall and spring.
- Recruit students from Texas high schools and community colleges.
- Develop and maintain relationships with high schools, community colleges, and other community programs that impact recruitment.
- Interview and counsel prospective students and families.
- Respond to inquiries and provide admissions guidance and/or counseling.
- Develop and give audience-appropriate presentations to University visitors and prospective students.
- Follow up with prospective students in completing their application and assist them as needed through matriculation.
- Organize on-campus and off-campus recruitment activities in a selected geographical area.
- Facilitate the development of communication plans and marketing initiatives for prospective and accepted students using technical software and social media.
- Lead the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student assistants.
- Evaluate prospective student needs and build productive relationships by providing individualized assistance with educational goal identification, program selection, payment/financial aid planning, and paths to degree and/or certificate completion.
- Participate in staff development programs and campus functions. Make recommendations regarding the website and publications to promote campus visit programs.
- Assist the Assistant Director of Student Recruitment on projects and support other members of the team in meeting goals and expectations.
- Assist with data entry of prospective students.
- Perform other duties as requested.
A bachelor's degree is required. A minimum of one year of job-related experience, preferably in the area of recruitment and/or admissions, is also required. A valid Texas driver's license and a safe driving record are necessary for this position, as you will travel to and recruit students from Texas high schools and community colleges.
Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position. All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university by adhering to Federal and State regulations, and TWU Policies & Procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of University policies concerning admission.
- Knowledge of student information systems for statistical analysis and other computer technology applicable to functions of position.
- General knowledge of academic programs requirements.
- Working knowledge of office practices and methods.
- Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
- Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
- Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including university-related software and email.
- Ability to operate a motorized vehicle for recruitment travel.
