The Admissions Counselor provides telephonic and in-person risk assessment to assist the physician in identifying the appropriate level of care for potential patients.
This role is responsible for coordinating the referral and intake process, facilitating the admission process, and maintaining communication with referral sources, families, patients, and unit staff.
The Admissions Counselor is also responsible for verifying and prior authorizing insurance benefits as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Answers telephone calls using the appropriate greeting and obtains pertinent clinical, demographic, and insurance information from the caller to determine their needs.
- Performs telephonic risk screening to determine the level of suicidality/homicidality with the caller in crisis.
- Demonstrates knowledge of admission criteria for inpatient and outpatient levels of care and recommends appropriate service recommendations for each individual.
- Provides referral recommendations to appropriate resources whenever a caller is not appropriate for services.
