POSITION OVERVIEW

The University Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the utmost safety and security of all university personnel, students, visitors, and assets of the National University of Natural Medicine. This role embodies the essence of service, which is central to the mission of the Public Safety/Security Department. The position requires availability during weekend evenings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a secure environment by performing security duties at designated posts or while patrolling campus facilities and grounds.
  • Identify unauthorized individuals, monitor security breaches, and assess safety risks. Report any issues or emergencies to the supervisor and document incidents accurately.
  • Verify the legitimacy of individuals on campus by checking identification badges and ensuring compliance with access regulations.
  • Provide security escorts for employees, students, and visitors, ensuring a comfortable and safe experience throughout the university premises.
  • Assist with parking-related concerns, offering support to employees, students, and visitors, and coordinating with supervisors for necessary actions.
  • Manage the locking and unlocking of facilities as requested by authorized personnel, ensuring proper security measures are in place.
  • Keep a detailed patrol log, documenting all safety and security measures taken during shifts, with entries made at regular intervals.
  • Act as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act, monitoring and reporting any criminal activities to the relevant authorities.
  • Support crime victims by providing assistance, maintaining confidentiality, and referring them to appropriate resources.
  • Follow emergency protocols to aid students, employees, and guests during crises or emergencies.
  • Provide security coverage during weekends and special events, including lockout services and general assistance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma, GED, or technical school education is required, along with a minimum of one year of experience in security, life safety, or law enforcement. Experience in a higher education environment is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, and participate in required training sessions.
  • Strong multitasking skills with a calm, positive, and professional demeanor in a dynamic campus setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, conflict resolution abilities, and professional diplomacy when engaging with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Detail-oriented with a broad awareness necessary for effective report writing and daily activity logging.
  • A valid driver's license and car insurance that meets the university's requirements. CPR certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment is required. DPSST Unarmed Security Certification is mandatory.
