UNC Johnston boasts a cutting-edge surgical program, performing both inpatient and outpatient procedures for adult and pediatric patients across 8 Operating Rooms and 3 Endoscopy Rooms. Our team of Nurses and Surgical Technologists deliver exceptional intraoperative care across various specialties, including Orthopedics, Ortho Spine, General Surgery, GYN, Robotics, Neuro, ENT, Vascular, Ophthalmology, and Endoscopy.

Role Summary:
The Surgical Technician is a highly skilled professional knowledgeable in human anatomy and fundamental surgical techniques, capable of managing back table setups and assisting as required. This role is crucial to the Operating Room team, with a strong emphasis on delivering outstanding patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain a sterile environment by scrubbing, setting up, and preserving the sterile field.
  2. Gather and prepare necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures.
  3. Assist with patient positioning and transport to and from the operating room.
  4. Support the surgeon with tasks within their professional scope.
  5. Ensure sterility is upheld throughout all surgical procedures.
  6. Assist in cleaning and turnover of the operating room as required.
  7. Operate steam autoclaves and other sterile processing machinery.
  8. Anticipate upcoming surgical cases and prepare accordingly.

Additional Information:
Educational Requirements:
● Completion of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent experience as an OR Technician with at least five (5) years of recent practice.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● A minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in a surgical setting.
