Job Overview

Position Summary

The Building Code Compliance Inspector is responsible for conducting thorough inspections on construction work to ensure adherence to established building codes and regulations. This role encompasses the evaluation of both new and existing residential structures, including one- and two-family homes, townhouses, manufactured dwellings, and modular buildings. Inspectors with A-Level certification will also oversee commercial projects, ensuring they meet the standards set forth by the Oregon Structural Specialty Code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed plans reviews and field inspections to verify compliance with State Building Codes.
  • Advise on necessary corrective measures to ensure construction projects align with applicable regulations.
  • Provide assistance to various departments and the public regarding building regulations.
  • Investigate potential building code violations and interpret relevant requirements.
  • Respond to inquiries related to building codes and assist the public at the Building Division front counter, via phone, and through email.

Required Certifications and Licenses

For Building Inspector I or II:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC)
  • Two Oregon State Certifications at the "A" Level Inspector, or equivalent certifications as determined by the Building Official.

For Building Inspector III:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC)
  • Three Oregon State Certifications at the "A" Level Inspector, or equivalent certifications as determined by the Building Official.

Educational Background

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required, along with 3-5 years of relevant experience in roles with similar responsibilities. Candidates should possess knowledge of structural building codes, legal procedures, and terminology.

Physical Requirements

This position involves a balance of fieldwork in various weather conditions, requiring the ability to drive vehicles, navigate uneven surfaces, and perform physical tasks such as climbing and crawling. The role may require lifting and moving objects of varying weights.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time role within the Community Development Department, offering competitive hourly wages based on experience and certification level.
