Job Role:
The Staff Accountant position requires preparation and maintenance of financial records to track the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.
Main Responsibilities:
Key Duties:
- Financial Record-Keeping: Maintaining the general ledger, coding invoices, setting up new accounts, reconciling accounts, and closing the monthly books.
- Financial Reporting: Preparing monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Coding invoices, setting up new accounts, reconciling accounts, and closing the monthly books.
- Cash Management: Reconciling bank accounts at least monthly, verifying deposits, and addressing inquiries from banks.
- Financial Analysis: Reconciling cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; managing accounts receivable collections.
- Purchase Orders: Verifying and/or completing payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensuring payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Auditing: Providing outside auditors with assistance; gathering necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- Tax Compliance: Filing tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- Software Maintenance: Coordinating with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommending updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Purchasing System: Managing the purchasing and invoicing system.
- Professional Development: Maintaining knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
Requirements:
Qualification Standards:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting: A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required.
- Experience: At least three years of related experience is required.
- Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and attention to detail are essential.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting, understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, and experience filing sales tax returns.
- Software: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
- Task Management: Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
