Job Overview:

Under the guidance of a Microbiologist IV, this position operates with significant independence, allowing for the exercise of initiative and sound judgment.

Responsible for managing the reception of specimens and samples within the laboratory, ensuring the precision and reliability of daily reports. Allocates specimens, prioritizes responsibilities, and assists team leaders in troubleshooting and training efforts. Maintains quality assurance protocols, promptly reports discrepancies, and undertakes various responsibilities, including COOP activation.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing the reception of diverse specimen types at the laboratory, conducting necessary assessments, and rejecting substandard samples.
  • Confirming the accuracy of work completed by peers, preparing samples for analysis, and adhering to standard operating procedures for sample distribution.
  • Supporting error investigations, training new staff, and maintaining daily quality control reports. Inputting data into the Laboratory Information Management system and completing quality control steps.
  • Managing specimen submissions to external laboratories, complying with shipping regulations, and delivering customer service.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations, maintaining laboratory equipment, and proposing enhancements for quality customer service.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Fundamental understanding of microbiological and chemical principles.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and sample handling practices.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Skillful in following instructions and utilizing laboratory apparatus.
  • Capacity to collaborate with colleagues, adhere to procedures meticulously, and maintain comprehensive records.
  • Proficiency in aseptic techniques, managing infectious materials safely, and delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Physical ability to lift and transport packages weighing up to 50 lbs.
