University Health Services (UHS) is a certified on-campus medical facility dedicated to meeting the diverse healthcare needs of students.

UHS offers a wide range of services, including general medical care, public health education, and specialized clinics.

This position does not include benefits. You may work up to 19 hours per week. Please refer to the Work Shift section below.

Purpose

The role involves obtaining clinical specimens and conducting technical analyses to assist healthcare providers in diagnosing and treating patients. Responsibilities include performing procedures across all technical areas of the clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities

- Execute receptionist, administrative, and clerical tasks for the laboratory.
- Conduct analyses and report findings on patient specimens.
- Collect patient specimens and prepare them for testing.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as scheduled.
- Accept and complete additional tasks as assigned by the Associate Director and Assistant Laboratory Manager.
- Carry out and document laboratory quality control measures.
- Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement assessments.
- Undertake other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

- Graduate from an accredited two-year Medical Laboratory Technician program.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a 15-week training program as part of the degree.
- Proven ability to operate clinical laboratory equipment.
- Experience and moderate proficiency in using personal computers.
- Demonstrated capability to work effectively with a diverse community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective.
- Relevant education and experience may be considered as substitutes.

Preferred Qualifications

- Two or more years of experience in a laboratory setting performing moderate complexity testing.

Salary Range

$24.51 per hour

Working Conditions

- May work in standard office environments.
- Potential exposure to biohazards.
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
- Requires manual dexterity.
- Involves lifting and moving.
- Exposure to chemicals and materials typically found in offices, medical clinics, and maintenance activities.

Work Shift

- Up to 19 hours per week.
- Laboratory hours: 8 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
- Occasional weekend and holiday work may be required, as assigned.
- Schedule will be discussed during the interview.
