Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Portfolio Manager to join our team at BMO Financial Group. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in credit covering the middle market, generating $50MM - $2B in revenue. The successful candidate will be responsible for building a primarily new portfolio focused on new client acquisition and growth in market share in the middle market segment across all industry verticals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and leverage strong relationships with the Relationship Management and Treasury Product Services Teams, as well as other key product and support partners within the Commercial Bank across the various geographies to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
  • Leverage the bank to deliver the integrated BMO One Client focus across all lines of business, including Wealth, Retail, Small Business, and Capital Markets.
  • Facilitate decisioning and analysis of all types of credit information to support lending decisions and processes for the bank.
  • Make credit decisions and recommendations in accordance with sound credit-granting principles and in compliance with Bank Policies & Procedures.
  • Improve service levels, improve client satisfaction and loyalty scores by identifying and providing recommendations for process improvement.
  • Make recommendations to senior leaders on strategy and new initiatives, based on an in-depth understanding of the business/group.
  • Manage resources and lead the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals.
  • Develop the business case by identifying needs, analyzing potential options, and assessing expected return on investment.
  • Coordinate the management of databases; ensure alignment and integration of data in adherence with data governance standards.
  • Lead change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation, and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Provide direction on the creation of comprehensive credit structures to meet the transactional needs of clients.
  • Provide accurate financial analysis and risk assessment of new and existing customers.
  • Develop credit information to make lending decisions on new, renewal, and extension loans.
  • Assist in negotiations of terms and conditions of all decisions made via phone and email interaction with clients.
  • Prepare summary, present facts, and offer opinions concerning credit worthiness.
  • Minimize BMO's risk exposure by adhering to internal credit policies and procedures with respect to lending decisions.
  • Provide input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.
  • Operate at a group/enterprise-wide level and serve as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Implement changes in response to shifting trends.

Requirements:

  • Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Able to manage ambiguity.
  • Data-driven decision making - In-depth/Expert.
