Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Technician to join our team at Watertown Health Care Center. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our skilled nursing facility by performing routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Repair: Collects and reviews maintenance requisitions from all units and departments of the facility, establishes priorities, assigns staff or inspects, replaces, repairs or otherwise resolves problems.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Implements the approved preventative maintenance program throughout the physical plant and for all equipment per the schedule.
  • Emergency Power System Maintenance: Maintains and tests the emergency power system to ensure availability of power to all entrances, exits, fire detection alarms, extinguishing equipment, and life support systems in the event electrical supplies are interrupted.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintains all essential equipment (e.g., boiler room equipment, nursing unit/medication room refrigerators, kitchen refrigerator/freezer, laundry equipment) in safe operating condition.
  • Water System Maintenance: Assists the Administrator in establishing procedures to ensure the availability of potable water to essential areas in the event of loss of normal water supply.
  • Resident Call System Maintenance: Inspects, tests and maintains resident call system to ensure a functioning communication system from rooms, toilets and bathing facilities.
  • Ventilation System Maintenance: Maintains facility ventilation system to provide appropriate air movement with acceptable temperature, humidity and odor control levels.
  • Emergency Response: Responds to emergency maintenance needs promptly.
  • Communication: Cooperates with other departments to identify and accommodate individual resident needs and preferences. Communicates directly with residents.
  • Documentation: Completes required documentation and record keeping of maintenance activities.
  • Collaboration: Collaborates with consultants with timely responses to request for information and suggestions to improve quality of maintenance services.
  • Survey Preparation: Actively participates in long term care survey process by instructing staff in matters of conduct and disclosure, maintaining a presence at all times surveyors are on-site and directing the timely collection of information required by the survey team.
  • Supply Management: Maintains adequate supplies and tools for efficient and effective functioning of maintenance department and Facility operations.
  • Emergency Drills: Coordinates facility fire and disaster drills. In the event of an emergency, carries out assigned duties to assure resident safety.
  • Reporting: Reports injury of resident or self to unit charge nurse immediately.
  • Compliance: Complies with all federal, state, local and Facility regulations and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: At least 2 years experience with maintenance for a skilled nursing facility.
  • Life Safety Knowledge: Life safety knowledge.
