Program Overview:

The Second Chance Heroes: Veteran Employment & Support Services Program is committed to aiding returning veterans in their transition back into civilian life. This initiative offers a range of services designed to promote self-sufficiency, including job placement assistance, housing support, and mentorship opportunities.

Position Objective:

The primary goal of the Benefits and Housing Specialist is to secure stable housing and facilitate access to essential benefits for participants, while building community connections that enhance the effectiveness of the program and support the success of its participants.

Key Responsibilities:Housing and Benefits Management:
  • Evaluate housing requirements and ensure participants secure stable, affordable housing, targeting a success rate of at least 70% for those experiencing homelessness.
  • Guide participants in applying for and maintaining eligibility for various benefits programs, including VA benefits and social security.
  • Create and keep an updated resource manual with comprehensive information on community housing and benefits options.
Community Partnership Development:
  • Establish and nurture effective partnerships within the community to enhance service delivery.
  • Expand collaborations by a minimum of twelve annually, formalized through agreements with partner organizations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Program Manager and Program Assistant to ensure the development and regular updating of community resources.
Program Support and Participant Retention:
  • Assist case managers in achieving a retention rate of at least 80% by providing necessary documentation and support for participant intake and ongoing eligibility verification.
  • Recruit mentors and coordinate mentorship activities to aid in participant reintegration.
  • Deliver nurturing skills training to parent participants to facilitate familial reintegration and stability.
Documentation and Compliance:
  • Ensure all participant documentation is completed accurately and promptly for both intake and ongoing program participation.
  • Maintain precise records of housing placements, benefits access, and mentorship activities.
  • Work with program staff to ensure adherence to program guidelines and objectives.
Communication and Reporting:
  • Maintain regular communication with community partners, program staff, and participants to ensure needs are met and services are delivered effectively.
  • Prepare reports detailing housing stability, benefits provision, and community partnership outcomes for program management and stakeholders.
Key Performance Indicators:
  1. Community Partnership Growth: Achieve an increase of twelve community partnerships each year, evidenced by signed agreements.
  2. Housing Placement Success: Attain a minimum of 70% housing placement rate for participants who are homeless.
  3. Participant Retention: Support maintaining an 80% retention rate of participants in the program.
Essential Competencies:

  • Program Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Empathy and Support: Demonstrated ability to understand and empathize with the challenges faced by returning veterans.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in housing services, benefits administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of veterans' services and benefits is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with data management and reporting systems.
