Job Summary

The Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships will lead fundraising efforts for key service lines and collaborate with the Senior Director of Development to develop strategic elements of the campaign for capital projects and programmatic initiatives.

This role requires a strong leader who can provide strategic vision and guidance to build upon the strengths of a grateful patient fundraising program and increase its visibility and impact across campus.

The Director will be responsible for all aspects of fundraising activities, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, gift closure, and stewardship of assigned prospects.

They will work closely with physician partners, Department Chairs, and Division Chiefs to develop and implement key fundraising strategies for assigned service lines and translate Jefferson and service line priorities into major gift, blended gift, and fundraising opportunities.

The Director will establish and implement a long-term development plan to support the program's continued growth and collaborate with physician leadership to identify and respond to gift opportunities.

They will maintain an active portfolio of key major gift prospects and personally maintain a portfolio of major gifts prospects.

The Director will develop a comprehensive understanding of the educational, research, clinical, and financial needs and goals of service lines and establish, maintain, and grow a highly responsive and collaborative development program to meet these needs/goals.

They will maintain organized and consistent communication with physician and departmental leaders who serve as critical players in assigned service lines and respond to their needs and collaboratively identify potential gift opportunities.

The Director will work with communications staff to translate strategic initiatives and programmatic/capital needs into persuasive proposals and compelling major gift opportunities.

They will work collaboratively with the Senior Director of Development for the Abington Health Foundation and the Jefferson enterprise to develop a dynamic, targeted, integrated annual fund work plan.

The Director will ensure the optimization of the use of social media and electronic communications and work collaboratively with the Planned Giving team to create a robust planned giving program for grateful patients.

They will maintain fluid and proactive communications with colleagues to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving key fundraising goals and objectives.

The Director will manage an individual prospect pool of 125+ and conduct a minimum of 125 Meaningful Donor Encounters per year.

They will solicit at least 30 proposals annually at $25K+ and interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's core values.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of professional experience, experience with database software systems and Microsoft Office, excellent oral, written, and communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with both internal and external constituencies.

The Director will be able to articulate a compelling case for major philanthropic support for medicine programs and present objectives persuasively to potential donors.

They will have 5 to 8 plus years of direct or related financial gift and fundraising experience, preferably at an academic medical center, hospital system, top research university, or a comparably complex organization.

A demonstrated record of successful major gifts fundraising, including qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and closing of individual major gifts, is essential.

Broad background experience in several functional areas, particularly in individual gifts, planned, annual, corporate, and foundation giving, and events is desirable.

Experience in leading a multi-constituent program, including the development and execution of an operating plan in collaboration with a department head, is also essential.

Proven experience in strategy development, goal setting, and achievement is required.

Superior interpersonal skills and the capacity to engage, inspire, and persuade multiple constituencies, both within the institution and beyond, are essential.

The Director will be able to develop trust and collaborative working relationships with colleagues.
