VAR Operator

Volt is seeking a skilled VAR Operator to join our team in South Gate, CA. As a VAR Operator, you will be responsible for operating the furnace and equipment, performing pre-operative checks, and maintaining the equipment and surrounding areas.

• Operate the furnace and equipment, following standard manufacturing and operating procedures.
• Perform pre-operative checks prior to and during the pump down cycle, using pre-pump and start-up checklists.
• Set up and operate the equipment furnace(s) as directed, including inspecting and preparing electrodes for melting.
• Bleed water and vacuum systems, grind electrodes, stubs, and copper stools, and clean, paint, and maintain crucibles and base plates.
• Load electrodes, operate water and vacuum systems, and operate furnace controls and instrumentation.
• Remelt electrodes, cool, load, unload, identify, and weigh ingots, and maintain operating records and logs.
• Interpret video monitors, gauges, meters, etc. while operating the VAR furnace(s), and perform leak-up rate tests to determine vacuum integrity.
• Clean out furnaces and crucibles during maintenance cycles and replace damaged components, operate leak detectors, and use various hand and power tools as directed.
• Perform maintenance required to ensure good operating condition of furnace(s) and auxiliary equipment, and support other departments as needed per production demands.

• Must be mechanically inclined and possess basic math skills.
• Must be good at following instructions.
• Must be capable of working in a group.
• Ability to lift objects up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to work with heavy rigging, piping, forklift, and crane-operating experience highly preferred.
• Must be able to think quickly and take action.
• Must be able to wear a respirator.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Strong learning aptitude required.
