Job Summary

Volt is seeking a skilled VAR Operator to join our team in South Gate, CA. As a VAR Operator, you will be responsible for operating the VAR furnace, performing pre-operative checks, and maintaining the equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate the VAR furnace, following standard manufacturing and operating procedures.
  • Perform pre-operative checks, including inspecting and preparing electrodes for melting.
  • Set up and operate the equipment furnace(s) as directed, including bleeding water and vacuum systems.
  • Grind electrodes, stubs, and copper stools, and clean, paint, and maintain crucibles and base plates.
  • Load electrodes, operate water and vacuum systems, and maintain operating records and logs.
  • Perform leak-up rate tests to determine vacuum integrity and clean out furnaces and crucibles during maintenance cycles.
  • Operate leak detectors and use various hand and power tools as directed.
  • Maintain the good operating condition of furnace(s) and auxiliary equipment.
Requirements
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a group.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 35 pounds and work with heavy rigging, piping, and equipment.
  • Ability to think quickly and take action, and wear a respirator.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and have strong learning aptitude.
