About the Role:

Job Summary

The Armed Security Officer is responsible for a variety of security-related tasks aimed at ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, and staff within the healthcare environment. This role involves responding to incidents involving disruptive individuals, investigating suspicious activities, and providing customer service in accordance with established policies and procedures. Officers will conduct regular patrols of the facility and its grounds, maintain logs of daily activities, and perform additional duties as assigned by the Security Supervisor.

Minimum Job Qualifications
  • Licensure or other certifications: Must possess a valid GA Drivers License and current BLS certification, or obtain it within 30 days of employment.
  • Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum Experience: Two (2) years of experience in military, law enforcement, corrections, or private security.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine and random patrols of the facility and grounds, documenting all findings. This includes assessing lighting conditions, identifying hazardous situations, and addressing aesthetic needs to maintain the facility's image.
  • Initiate investigations into security incidents and report findings to the supervisor and coordinator. This includes accidents, thefts, disturbances, and complaints.
  • Participate in training drills and ensure proper documentation as required by regulatory agencies. This includes fire drills, bomb threat drills, and workplace violence education.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions, demonstrating active participation.
  • Achieve a minimum score of 80% on firearm certification in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Maintain and clean issued weapons in accordance with departmental specifications.
  • Complete a minimum of 16 hours of professional training annually, with documented proof.
  • Obtain certification for all defensive tools and equipment used.
  • Assist new officers in identifying strengths and weaknesses in their performance.
  • Respond promptly to requests for assistance. This includes unlocking doors, providing vehicle assistance, and safety escorts.
  • Engage with hospital visitors to ensure compliance with policies while minimizing confrontations.
  • Provide assistance and answer questions from the public with a positive attitude.
  • Maintain accuracy and accountability when handling funds and valuables.
  • Manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks to ensure timely completion.
  • Carry out assigned special duties and report findings to supervisors promptly.
  • Execute emergency procedures according to established policies.
  • Provide backup support to colleagues during confrontational situations.
  • Develop skills to de-escalate confrontational situations. This includes interpersonal skills and non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
  • Utilize departmental equipment correctly and maintain it in good working condition.
  • Monitor CCTV systems for suspicious activities.
  • Conduct interviews with individuals in a courteous and unbiased manner.
  • Exercise good judgment in prioritizing requests and responding to emergencies.
  • Maintain a compassionate and professional demeanor under pressure, ensuring the safety and security of all involved.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use minimal force when necessary during confrontations.
  • Attend mandatory training on protective equipment and maintain proficiency.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
  • Anticipate the need for personal protective equipment in job performance. This includes handcuffs, pepper spray, batons, firearms, and other safety gear.
  • Ensure the integrity of both hospital-issued and personal protective equipment.
