Job Responsibilities

The primary function of this role is to collaborate with community stakeholders, law enforcement agencies, and legal representatives to facilitate the implementation of the Group Violence Intervention (GVI) Program. This position will directly engage with individuals in various communities, ensuring effective communication and resource allocation in regions such as Roanoke, Lynchburg, Martinsville, and Danville, Virginia.

Under general oversight, the incumbent will work closely with prosecutors, law enforcement officials, and community members to coordinate resources and cultivate relationships using GVI, Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), and other community-focused strategies. This role is crucial in assisting with the application of evidence-based practices aimed at reducing or preventing violent crimes related to firearms and gang activity.

The coordinator will be responsible for organizing and participating in community meetings and events, fostering partnerships with local organizations, businesses, civic groups, and faith-based entities to address service gaps for both youth and adults. Additionally, the coordinator will monitor progress and manage financial reporting associated with grant funding.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven experience in law enforcement, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze extensive written information and demonstrate excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in time management, prioritization, multitasking, and working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Competence in Microsoft Word and Excel is essential, along with familiarity with case management systems and legal research tools.
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience is preferred.
  • Experience in law enforcement or prosecution is mandatory.

Additional Considerations

A bachelor's or associate degree in a relevant field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience may be considered.
