Job Summary

The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting passengers to and from scheduled destinations in accordance with the general policies set forth by the YMCA of the Suncoast. This role requires a high level of safety awareness, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operate a school bus in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all posted road signs, limits, and warnings.
  2. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the vehicle, including the disposal of trash and the maintenance of equipment.
  3. Provide a nurturing and safe environment for passengers, reporting any suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or a violation of the code of conduct.
  4. Follow emergency procedures in the event of an accident or vehicle breakdown, remaining with passengers at all times and informing the Executive Director of any incidents.
  5. Communicate effectively with passengers, colleagues, and supervisors, using a professional and courteous tone.
  6. Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, operating conditions, and passenger information.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A valid Florida CDL license and a minimum of 21 years old.
  • Meet the general qualifications as provided under FMCSR, Part 391 (Qualifications of Drivers) and the YMCA of the Suncoast driving criteria.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills, with a broad understanding of the YMCA's goals and purpose.
  • CPR/AED, First Aid, and S endorsement preferred.
Working Conditions

This role may require working in a variety of environments, including tropical climates, and may involve sitting and handling stressful situations for extended periods.

What We Offer

The YMCA of the Suncoast offers a competitive salary range of $14.50/hr - $19.00/hr, with a base rate of $17.50/hr for those with an S endorsement. We also offer opportunities for professional growth and development, as well as a positive and supportive work environment.
