Position Overview

The Fertility Ultrasound Technologist plays a crucial role in the operation of sonographic equipment, executing and conveying results of diagnostic examinations. This position entails managing the daily functions of the sonographic laboratory, overseeing patient scheduling, maintaining equipment, reporting malfunctions, and ensuring quality assessments.

Key Responsibilities

Qualified candidates will be expected to:

1. Conduct all diagnostic ultrasound procedures utilizing appropriate techniques as per departmental guidelines.
2. Provide ultrasound services during weekends, holidays, and on-call as required.
3. Deliver patient care across various age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
4. Review requests and confirm any special instructions from referring physicians; consult with radiologists when necessary.
5. Welcome patients and accurately verify their identity to ensure the correct procedure is performed.
6. Clearly explain the procedure to patients and their families.
7. Complete necessary documentation regarding patient history and examination results.
8. Record technical observations for each procedure and seek assistance when needed.
9. Evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic information to the attending physician.
10. Maintain effective communication with patients and the healthcare team, acknowledging the unique nature of sonographic examinations and the needs of patients.

Additional Duties

In addition to primary responsibilities, the following tasks may be required:

1. Participate in the clinical education of students and staff as needed.
2. Conduct visual preventive safety inspections for ultrasound rooms and report any issues.
3. Manage inventory supplies for ultrasound rooms and communicate replenishment needs.
4. Work efficiently and effectively in emergency situations.
5. Foster and maintain positive working relationships with the public and healthcare team.
6. Participate in on-call responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

1. High School diploma or GED.
2. Graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
3. Certification by the ARDMS in Physics (SPI), OB/GYN, and ABD within a specified timeframe after placement.
4. CPR certification.
5. Strong communication and patient care skills.
6. Valid driver's license may be required based on position assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Competency in all specialty areas offered.
2. Two years of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
3. Additional ARDMS specialty certifications are encouraged.
