Data Center Engineer II

The Data Center Engineer II plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our server infrastructure, collaborating with the planning team to develop strategies for various platforms. This role requires a deep understanding of Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware, Active Directory, Cisco UCS, and intermediate IT troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in planning and implementing hardware and software upgrades to maintain optimal system performance.
  • Help monitor and maintain server clusters to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Work within specialized client/server environments to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Assist in maintaining and configuring DNS and Active Directory services to ensure seamless communication between systems.
  • Help manage multiple data storage systems to ensure efficient data management and retrieval.
  • Automate routine tasks using Python or PowerShell under supervision to increase productivity and reduce errors.
  • Document server environments for change control and technical repository to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Support file and block data storage and backup systems to ensure business continuity.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (Required) or relevant experience in data center engineering beyond the minimum required work experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a 1-1 ratio.
  • 5 years of hands-on data center and systems engineering experience (Required)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • One or more of: MSCE, VMware VCP, AIX, Citrix, EMC (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities:
  • Systems Management: Provide administration for multiple servers and hybrid cloud; ensure server availability.
  • System Integration/Implementation: Forecast and maintain server and storage capacities; integrate hardware and operating systems software into existing network technologies.
  • System/Project Planning: Implement approved hardware and operating systems designs and configurations; participate in Disaster Recovery design and planning.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate understanding of standard networking protocols and NDS technology; maintain professional expertise through continuing education.
  • IT Best Practices: Actively participate in the Department's ITIL processes; participate in the Incident Management process.
