Position Overview

As a CDL Yard Driver at Spee-Dee Delivery Service, you will play a crucial role in managing the flow of trailers within our facility. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the arrival of incoming trailers and facilitate the movement of outgoing trailers as they are prepared for dispatch.

Work Schedule and Compensation

Hours: Monday to Friday
Overtime: Expect 10-15 hours of overtime weekly, with overtime pay at time and a half after 40 hours.
Starting Wage: Competitive hourly rate based on experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Efficiently transfers incoming trailers to loading docks and relocates them once unloaded.
  • Switches outbound terminal trailers after they have been loaded.
  • Conducts local pick-ups in the surrounding area as needed.
  • Replaces trailers when Transport CDL Drivers are unavailable.
  • Collaborates with CDL Mechanics regarding maintenance and repair needs.
  • Removes empty pallets from trailers post-unloading.
  • Coordinates the loading and unloading of LTL pallets.
  • Works closely with warehouse management to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintains cleanliness by washing the exterior of tractors and equipment daily.
  • Assists with additional tasks as required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Valid CDL Class-A driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Proficient in driving manual transmission vehicles.
  • Possession or ability to obtain doubles/triples endorsement.
  • Strong customer service and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make swift decisions.
  • Must pass a DOT physical and lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, with repetitive lifting of 50 pounds.
  • Capable of handling various types of freight, including hazardous materials and live animals.
  • Full range of motion with no restrictions on physical activities such as grasping, standing, and walking.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate road hazards.
