Data Center Consultant Job Description

Axelon is seeking an experienced Data Center Consultant to join our team. As a Data Center Consultant, you will be responsible for installing and uninstalling hardware in the data center, running UTP and fiber cables, and providing and maintaining data cabling and associated documentation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install and uninstall hardware in the data center
  • Run UTP and fiber cables in the data center
  • Provide and maintain data cabling and associated documentation
  • Manage a DCIM tool
  • Perform basic network troubleshooting and diagnosis
  • Utilize network test equipment, including a power meter and light source, CAT 6 Cable Tester
  • Provide support at multiple sites stretching across multiple cities
  • Replace defective components and test the final product to ensure quality requirements are met
  • Communicate effectively in tickets, emails, or messaging applications with management and peers
  • Good organization skills, neatness counts
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to carry and/or lift tools, kits, or parts of up to 50-75 lbs
  • Completion of paperwork, including time sheets, expense reports, and daily reports, accurately and on time
  • Assist with shipping and receiving and its associated processes
  • Work with vendors and internal requesters to troubleshoot/resolve issues
  • Provide proactive and break-fix support for alarm/ticket remediation related to facilities/telecom/datacenter equipment
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience with data center cabling and racking
  • Familiar with data center environment, topologies, pre-terminated fiber
  • Knowledgeable in data center practices, including basic fault tolerance, cable routing, calculating power usage
  • Strong knowledge of UTP, fiber optic, serial, and coaxial cabling standards and limitations
  • Strong knowledge of commonly used single and multimode optics (Cisco 1G, 10G, 40G, 100G)
  • Manage all documentation, new implementations, hardware upgrades, and planned maintenance
  • Preferred 1 year experience working in a production data center, preferably in the financial industry
  • Associate's degree in a related field preferred
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware
  • Dell certifications preferred
