Job Overview

Position Summary: The Extended Care Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the Catholic school by ensuring the well-being and supervision of all children in their care, adhering to the school's values, structure, and guidelines. This role is accountable to the principal for performance and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure constant supervision of all children/students. It is imperative to NEVER leave a child unattended.
    1. Avoid engaging in games or activities with individual children to maintain proper oversight.
    2. Only carry children if it is necessary due to an injury.
  2. Implement a check-out process for parents/guardians, requiring written confirmation or use of designated systems.
    1. Identify authorized individuals for child pick-up.
    2. Request identification from unfamiliar individuals.
    3. Do not release any child to unauthorized persons.
  3. Prepare and provide nutritious snacks for all children in extended care.
    1. Ensure snacks are available for all children, with exceptions made only for allergies.
  4. Distribute snacks to children effectively.
  5. Maintain cleanliness in all areas utilized – children should participate in tidying up.
  6. Oversee play activities within designated areas.
  7. Organize age-appropriate activities during recreational time.
  8. Provide a study area for students wishing to complete homework or study.
    1. Monitor students assigned work by teachers to ensure completion.
  9. Keep accurate attendance records.
  10. Enforce safety regulations and respect for school property among all children. Ensure that classroom materials are used only with explicit permission from the classroom teacher. It is the responsibility of extended care staff to monitor all utilized spaces (both indoors and outdoors) to prevent misuse.
  11. Conduct monthly fire and safety drills, documenting these in the Extended Care binder.
  12. Administer appropriate consequences for disciplinary issues, coordinating with the principal as necessary.
  13. Communicate any discipline-related concerns to parents.
  14. Report any significant issues to the principal.
  15. Ensure adequate staffing levels at all times.
  16. Act as a positive representative of the school. Students should address supervisors respectfully.
  17. Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal.

Qualifications:


• Experience working with children aged 3 to 14 years

Skills and Knowledge:


• Understanding of the fundamental teachings of the Catholic Church


• Proficient in both written and verbal communication


• Ability to collaborate effectively within the school community


• Competence in managing multiple tasks simultaneously


• Proficiency in relevant technology


• Strong critical thinking and planning skills

Work Environment:


• Required to work from 3 to 6 p.m. on weekdays


• Must manage moderate stress levels


• Work will take place both indoors and outdoors

  • Must wear appropriate clothing, including closed-toe shoes and shirts with sleeves.

Mental and Physical Requirements:


• Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment as needed


• Maintain composure and professionalism in all situations


• Daily activities will include sitting, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, hearing, seeing, and speaking.
