Job Summary

The Assistant Tool Maker is a key member of our team, responsible for assisting with troubleshooting problems, performing tool maintenance, fabricating tooling, and modifying tools and related components to design specifications while optimizing cost and delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the fabrication, modification, maintenance, and repair of tools and mechanical components using CNC mills, mills, lathes, drills, grinders, and other shop equipment.
  • Perform bench work such as sanding and tool assembly.
  • Assist in tool inspections to ensure proper tool rebuilds/repairs and reduce development costs of new tools.
  • Participate as a team member to improve work practices and methods.
  • Understand and comply with all ISO QSP's and work instructions related to job responsibilities.
  • Assist in Tool Vault and Sample Lab as required.
  • Work in any department of the Company as required.
  • Participate in training and educational opportunities, including ISO 9000 to improve individual skills, knowledge, and ability.
  • Comply with all applicable safety regulations and keep work area neat and orderly.
  • Assist all departments by providing machine shop support.
  • Troubleshoot production problems and provide solutions.
  • Perform work to the tooling schedule and adjust as required to meet internal and external customer deadlines.
Requirements
  • Certificate in Machine Tool Operations or related field and 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment – OR – Equivalent machine tool experience in tool fabrication, maintenance, or machine shop.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to meet training, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Working knowledge on the safe and effective use of the following machine shop equipment: CAD/CAM, CNC mills, EDM's, milling machines, manual lathes, and drill presses.
  • Must be able to read blueprints.
  • Must be able to apply shop math to build tools.
