Physical Demands

Position Overview
The Senior Inpatient Social Services Specialist delivers essential medical social services to patients and their families, addressing specific challenges related to environmental and psychological factors that impact effective inpatient or outpatient care. This role collaborates closely with the RN Case Manager to develop and execute the patient's discharge plan and coordinate necessary medical services.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for all referred patients, particularly in cases of abuse and neglect across all age groups, and provide follow-up as necessary.

Essential Skills and Knowledge
The ideal candidate will have experience in hospital-based social work and hold a Certified Social Worker (CSW) license. A strong understanding of NASW guidelines related to patient care and relationships is crucial. Candidates should possess:

  • Direct patient care experience
  • Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • A collaborative spirit to work effectively in a supportive team environment
  • Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office
  • Above-average customer service abilities
  • Active listening skills

Moreover, the candidate should be capable of providing appropriate crisis intervention, emotional support, resource information, legal reporting, arranging case conferences, and facilitating bio-ethical consultations.

Preferred Experience
A minimum of three years of experience delivering social services in a medical context is preferred, with at least one year in an acute medical environment being highly desirable.
