Geotechnical Engineer Job Description

Spero Engineering & Architecture is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in planning and coordinating geotechnical and materials testing field work, using GIS and GPS to aid in planning and executing geotechnical field work, and logging test borings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Geotechnical Field Work: Plan and coordinate geotechnical and materials testing field work, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks.
  • GIS and GPS: Utilize GIS and GPS to aid in planning and executing geotechnical field work, ensuring efficient and effective project execution.
  • Test Boring Logging: Log test borings accurately and efficiently, ensuring high-quality data for project analysis.
  • Geotechnical Construction: Observe geotechnical-related construction and perform materials testing, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
  • Field Reporting: Prepare field reports, summarizing project progress and highlighting key findings.
  • Design Support: Provide support on preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals, ensuring accurate and timely delivery.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Experience: 1-8 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering or a related field.
  • Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, positive attitude, ability to multi-task, strong work ethic, and willingness to perform field work and travel.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside.
Desired Qualifications:
  • EIT Certification: EIT certification is highly desirable.
  • Master's Degree: Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is highly desirable.
  • Prior Experience: Prior internship or professional work in a related field, such as geotechnical engineering, construction, or civil engineering, is highly desirable.

Other Requirements: Ability to pass a background check, which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check, and ability to pass a pre-employment screening.
