JOB SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, the Accountant will perform reconciliations between subsidiary ledgers and the general ledger, compile and analyze intricate financial data to ensure the accuracy and consistency of financial and operational reports. This role requires a deep understanding of complex business requirements, generally accepted accounting principles, and the overall functioning of the authority concerning financial transaction processing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts reconciliations between subsidiary ledgers and the general ledger. Prepares and analyzes specialized, complex financial reports. Develops monthly miscellaneous retained files. Compiles and verifies the accuracy and validity of intricate accounting transactions, often necessitating detailed analysis and resolution. Applies generally accepted accounting principles in recording and reviewing financial activities. Assists in updating or implementing departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with audit standards. Resolves complex financial issues related to managing multiple projects. Provides customer service regarding complex financial matters and interacts with management and external entities. May compile information for or act as a liaison to external regulatory agencies and auditors.·Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge across multiple functional areas. Recommends and implements accounting policies and procedures.
·Performs all other duties as assigned.
AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Accountant 1 Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent AND completion of a governmental accounting series for state employees AND two years of experience at a level equivalent to Paraprofessional Accountant, Senior OR
Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
Accountant 2 Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution OR equivalent education or experience on a year-for-year basis AND two (2) years of professional accounting experience at a level equivalent to Accountant 1.
Preferred Qualifications:
(Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience):
Experience in state government accounts receivable Completion of the governmental accounting series Familiarity with PeopleSoft/Teamwork within the State of Georgia Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office·Experience in financial monitoring, analysis, and report creation and/or presentation.
