Kaiser Permanente is a leading healthcare organization seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to support its Optometry team in Sherwood, Oregon.

About the Job

This is a 20 hours per week, ongoing role that requires the successful candidate to work collaboratively with doctors of optometry to provide high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to multitask effectively and have a strong understanding of ophthalmic instruments and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately record patients' medical and visual history, review and prepare clinical information for doctors. Take and record patient vitals as required and perform preliminary testing using various ophthalmic instruments.
  • Manage phone calls and other patient communication, assess situations and manage triage accordingly. Maintain accurate records and reports as instructed by doctors.
  • Maintain diagnostic and therapeutic instruments and equipment, ensuring they are clean and accurate. Perform repairs and recalibrations as necessary and maintain inventory of ophthalmic medications.
  • Coordinate patient care with optical dispensing, membership services, family practice, ophthalmology, pharmacy and other KP departments and services.
Requirements
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience functioning in an optometric or ophthalmic practice under the supervision of an optometrist or ophthalmologist, and/or successful completion of a JCAHPO accredited ophthalmic medical technology program.
  • Paraoptometric Assistant Certificate within 24 months of hire from American Optometric Association OR Ophthalmic Technician Certificate within 24 months of hire from The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology.
  • Demonstrated experience and competence with ophthalmic instruments, including auto-refractor, auto-lensometer, non-contact tonometer, Titmus vision tester, Snellen chart, visual acuity projector and visual field testing equipment.
Salary & Benefits
