Key Responsibilities
The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for overseeing, directing, or conducting remediation engineering initiatives. Specific duties include:
- Applying environmental engineering expertise to execute engineering tasks related to environmental assessments and remediation projects.
- Engaging in a variety of remedial engineering assignments addressing diverse contaminants (VOCs/SVOCs/metals/PFAS/PCBs/NAPL) across multiple media (soil/groundwater/surface water/bedrock, etc.) using cutting-edge remedial technologies (P&T/removal/containment/dredging/ISS/chemical oxidation/bioremediation/capping).
- Collaborating with project managers and clients to establish project scope, timelines, and budgets.
- Leading a team of engineers and scientists in the development of remediation design outputs, including engineering design reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and construction schedules.
- Drafting reports such as Feasibility Studies, Pre-Design Investigations, Remedial Design, and Remedial Action plans and reports.
- Participating in discussions with clients and regulatory bodies to address technical challenges and negotiate remediation strategies.
- Possibly serving as a task manager on large-scale remediation projects.
- Developing and executing field investigations, primarily supervising the investigation team from the office, but may also require field leadership.
- Acting as a consultant and supervisor for remedial construction management projects as necessary.
- Independently handling technical tasks involving data analysis, interpreting results, and preparing technical reports, plans, and specifications.
- Delegating and overseeing project team members on remediation design elements.
- Supporting marketing initiatives for environmental project proposals.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Prior experience in designing and developing plans and specifications for environmental engineering projects, particularly in remediation design and execution.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Self-driven, capable of working independently and collaboratively to complete tasks.
- A commitment to actively participating in our employee-owned culture is essential.
- 7 years of experience in remediation projects with an emphasis on remedial design.
- Exceptional communication skills and strong writing abilities are crucial.
- Must be adaptable, client-oriented, and self-motivated.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often collaborating with professionals across various offices. Capable of working under the guidance of project managers/senior engineers and supervising junior engineers on project tasks.
- Strong dedication to safety, including adherence to health and safety protocols.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple tasks and meeting strict deadlines.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- A commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture is essential.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Practical experience with Michigan Part 115 & 201 Regulations and collaboration with regulatory agencies.
- Experience with EPA CCR Rule and engagement with the EPA.
- Experience in statistical data analysis.
- Proficiency in design graphing.
- Prior consulting experience in Michigan.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and current 8-hour annual refresher.
- Experience with persistent bioaccumulative organic chemicals, metals, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER training is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS, and/or Bentley software products is preferred.
- Prior experience with fieldwork and various environmental and/or remedial technologies is advantageous.
- Experience in developing and negotiating remedial actions, including federal projects, is a plus.
- Federal Superfund Feasibility Study and Design experience is an advantage.
