Senior Civil Engineer Job Description

SmithGroup is a leading integrated design firm with a global presence, seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our team.

We are committed to delivering innovative solutions that meet the needs of our clients and communities. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the technical aspects of our projects meet the highest standards of quality and design intent.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead project civil engineering teams to ensure technical excellence and quality expectations are met.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, building engineers, and site design professionals.
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, including large multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Develop and implement civil engineering designs, including project plans and specifications.
  • Lead and direct supporting staff to produce plans, details, and specifications for civil engineering projects.
  • Serve as a senior engineering resource to engineers and other site discipline professionals.
  • Perform site reviews, construction site visits, and coordinate construction administration.
  • Communicate with clients, sub-consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding engineering and permitting issues.
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching.
  • Engage with marketing, business development, and other disciplines to effectively market our services and develop new business opportunities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • 15+ years of design experience working as a Civil Engineer.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D programs; stormwater modeling experience a plus.
  • Experience with sustainable and green infrastructure design.
  • ENV SP or LEED AP a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task under rigid deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
