The Ann Arbor office of SmithGroup is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead our team in project management and site development.

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will:

  • Ensure that the technical aspects of projects meet quality expectations while complementing the design intent.
  • Collaborate with civil engineers, site design professionals, and permitting specialists, as well as architects and building engineers.
  • Produce civil engineering designs, including preparing project plans and specifications for waterfront, site development, or redevelopment of educational, medical, research, commercial, urban, and public facilities.
  • Lead and direct supporting staff to produce plans, details, and specifications for all aspects of civil engineering, including grading and drainage, stormwater management, underground utilities, retaining walls, roads, and other site-related features.
  • Serve as a senior engineering resource to engineers and other site discipline professionals.
  • Perform site reviews, construction site visits, coordinate all aspects of Construction Administration.
  • Communicate with clients, sub-consultants, contractors, and government agencies regarding engineering, permitting, and site development issues.
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching.
  • Engage with Marketing, Business Development, and other disciplines to effectively market our services, develop proposals, interview, and procure new work for the office.

An ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • 15 or more years of design experience working as a Civil Engineer.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D programs; stormwater modeling experience a plus.
  • Experience with sustainable and green infrastructure design.
  • ENV SP or LEED AP a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task under rigid deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
