Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician at Carle Foundation Hospital works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care to patients. This role involves filling prescriptions, assisting patients, and performing other pharmacy service duties as required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients
  • Filling, compounding, reconstitution, and labeling of medications
  • Entering patient information accurately into the pharmacy computer system
  • Performing calculations needed for prescription input and dispensing
  • Correctly identifying patients prior to dispensing medication
  • Offering patient counseling by a pharmacist prior to completing transactions
  • Prioritizing work to fill prescriptions in order of importance
  • Initialing Rx labels on all prescriptions
  • Maintaining drug and supply inventory
  • Removing expired medications, rotating stock, cleaning, and organizing assigned areas
  • Performing prescription returns and insurance reversals
  • Responding to phone call inquiries and walk-up service requests
  • Properly using department equipment
  • Performing select assigned tasks that may include specialized or advanced training and/or competency
Requirements
  • Pharmacy Technician License in Illinois within 60 days
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) for pharmacy technicians licensed after December 31, 2007
  • Basic computer literacy, reading, math, and phone skills
  • Previous pharmacy experience or customer service experience preferred
Work Environment

The Pharmacy Technician will work in a fast-paced pharmacy environment, interacting with patients, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a team environment, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
