Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Carle Foundation Hospital. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to fill prescriptions, deliver orders, and perform other pharmacy service duties as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fills medication orders in an accurate and timely manner, including new or lost doses, floor stock replacement items, unit dose, etc.
  • Accurately and safely prepare and label chemotherapy drugs for administration.
  • Accurately fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists.
  • Actively supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the hospital and pharmacy department.
  • Answers, places, and transfers telephone calls in a courteous manner.
  • Assists in special projects not requiring clinical decision-making capacity as assigned by department leadership.
  • Assists in training new staff and helps other areas when needed.
  • Calculates appropriate medication doses based on patient's age: adult, pediatric, neonate, geriatric, and adolescent.
  • Completes special projects correctly and on time.
  • Performs miscellaneous billing functions, including patient charging and crediting, nursing unit charges, and controlled substance charging through manual entry into the computer, or with bar code reader.
  • Performs monthly inspection of assigned nursing units and pharmacy area for expired or otherwise unusable drugs, and provides proper storage and accurate inventory.
  • Restocks and replaces various trays and kits used throughout the facility.
  • Returns medications to stock and reorders medication if needed.
  • Safely uses departmental equipment and disposes of waste in the proper containers.
Requirements
  • Pharmacy Technician License Illinois
  • Must submit proof of IDFPR application upon hire date to be eligible for 60-day allowance to obtain license within 60 days and Certified Pharmacy Technician (NHA) for pharmacy technicians licensed after December 31, 2007. Must be certified within two (2) years of licensure acquired date.
  • Experience in retail operations, prescription processing, and computer entry.
  • Typing skills of 30 WPM; good communication skills, both written and verbal.
