Milpitas, California, United States KLA Full time

Compensation Overview:
$139,000 - $236,800 Annually

Location:
USA-CA-Milpitas-KLA

KLA offers a comprehensive total rewards package that may include participation in performance incentive programs and eligibility for various benefits outlined below. Interns may also qualify for some of these benefits. Our compensation ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

The range presented above reflects the minimum and maximum compensation for this position in the primary location specified in this posting.

Actual compensation is influenced by several factors, including location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

If applicable, your recruiter can provide more details about the specific compensation range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Company Overview:

KLA stands as a global frontrunner in diversified electronics within the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Almost every electronic device globally is produced utilizing our technologies.

No laptop, smartphone, wearable device, voice-controlled gadget, flexible screen, VR device, or smart car would have reached your hands without our contributions.

KLA innovates systems and solutions for the manufacturing of wafers and reticles, integrated circuits, packaging, printed circuit boards, and flat panel displays.

Our focus on innovation is above average, with 15% of sales reinvested into R&D.

Our expert teams of physicists, engineers, data scientists, and problem-solvers collaborate with leading technology providers to expedite the delivery of future electronic devices.

Life at KLA is dynamic, and our teams excel at addressing complex challenges. There is never a dull moment with us.

Group/Division:

With over 40 years of experience in semiconductor process control, chipmakers worldwide depend on KLA to ensure that their fabs efficiently ramp next-generation devices to volume production.

Driving the shift towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG) is responsible for developing all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, seeking the brightest research scientists, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

The Broadband Plasma Division (BBP) leads the market in patterned wafer optical inspection systems for cutting-edge IC manufacturing.

Logic, foundry, and memory clients rely on BBP products to identify yield-critical defects for process debugging and excursion monitoring at advanced process nodes.

BBP's flagship products, including the 29xx and 39xx series, utilize Broadband Plasma technology to detect a wide array of defects with unparalleled sensitivity at the optical inspection speeds required for inline defect monitoring.

Job Responsibilities:

We are in search of a specialist in theoretical and computational electromagnetism to join the technology development team within the Broadband Plasma division at KLA.

This division is responsible for developing the most advanced optical inspection technology utilized by semiconductor manufacturers to identify critical defects in wafers patterned with logic and memory devices.

The individual in this position will engage in modeling and simulation to gain insights, from fundamental principles, into the sensitivity challenges associated with optical detection of nanometer-scale defects in semiconductor devices.

The role also entails collaboration with semiconductor device manufacturers to comprehend their inspection challenges and devise pathways to enhance defect detectability.

We prefer candidates with a minimum of 5 years of research experience in electromagnetism, demonstrating the ability to construct and execute simulations in sub-fields such as photonics and plasmonics.

Candidates with expertise in materials modeling, particularly emphasizing the linear optical response of nanostructures, will be given strong preference. Familiarity with probability theory is also essential.

Applicants should possess strong skills in scientific computing using Python and/or any compiled language on Linux-based CPU and GPU clusters.

Educational Qualifications:
PhD in Physics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related fields.

Essential Technical Skills:
Understanding of electromagnetic scattering theory, including Green's functions and perturbation theory.
Proficiency in finite difference time domain methods for ab-initio modeling of high dielectric contrast materials across the deep UV to infrared spectrum.
Knowledge of Python and C/C++ ecosystems for scientific computing.
Basic understanding of coherent and incoherent optical imaging systems, including wavefront aberrations.
Competence in scripting workflows on Linux-based high-performance computing clusters.

Preferred Qualifications:
We will prioritize candidates with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Theoretical modeling of light-matter interactions in bulk solids and nanoparticles, including familiarity with time-dependent density functional theory and/or non-equilibrium Green's functions.

Experience with DFT packages for ab-initio computation of dielectric functions.
Molecular dynamics simulations of ionic and photon interactions with metal surfaces.
Machine learning and classical techniques for modeling probability distributions in high-dimensional spaces.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD Degree + 3 years, or Master Degree + 6 years, or Bachelor Degree + 8 years
